Description
Ceramic mural made in raku.
I am strongly opposed to the concept of globalization because the cultural destructiveness of the global village.
I am absolutely in favor of the universality because of the respect for local cultures that this concept implies.
This mural was intended as my artistic response to globalization.
The entire mural is designed as a puzzle of 10 pieces, wich represent African, Portuguese, Arabic and Oriental cultural references
The blocks that surround the woman is like a puzzle and also a key for the encrypted interpreting. They are primarily encoded cards with several possible readings. Memories. Labyrinths. silences
This work is fundamentally symbolist, full of of the symbols of my world, Portugal and Africa, cartography, tiles and textures of Africa, the woman more than a physical woman is a goddess, making the connection between this different cultures. This is a is a mural that tells many stories in a single representation and that is in the viewer discover these symbols and their connections ..
The arc that is behind the woman is an arc maked in the perfect manner of medieval Romanesque that associated with the light / dark gives a mystical tone to the mural.

A most wonderful, powerful artwork with exquisite colors. And it is so timeless too. Although it is from the present, it could be from long forgotten ancient Empires, perhaps like legendary Atlantis, or even from the future where we discover it as a remnant from another planet, whose civilization has long since disappeared.
