Description
A sculture made in ceramic raku.
Raku () is a traditional oriental technique of making pottery.
The Raku is a complex alchemy which involved the four elements (earth, fire, water and air) which made unique pieces, always wonderful. The pieces take a small kiln to 1000 degrees Celsius approx. (Depends on gloss enamel or used, is of lower temperatures and others to over 1000 degrees). When glazes reach their cooking are removed in a state of incandescence and carefully deposited, with the help of iron tongs in a container filled with wood shavings (you can also use sheets of newspaper or dried leaves of the tree) . Contact with this fire half the chip, leaves or paper and generates a tremendous amount of smoke entering the room and enters to be part of it. Glazes (oxides) that have been painted pieces provide a part of oxygen to the combustion, converting (reducing) and in pure metal, which gives the characteristic appearance of this pottery. After several minutes, the chemical process is set down suddenly with water temperature. You get the final colors, textures, hues and fascinating never the same from one room to another, which can range from red to Crackled metallic, pearlescent and iridescent characteristic of this technique
